SUMMARY:Sculpture Unveiling: Graft by Edra Soto
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at ICA San Diego / North on Monday\, March 16\, for the unveiling of Graft (2023)\, a newly installed sculpture by Edra Soto. \nJoin us at ICA San Diego / North for the unveiling of Graft (2023)\, a newly installed sculpture by Edra Soto\, generously donated to the museum by the artist\, supported by the Sahm Family Foundation\, and now permanently part of our public Sculpture Trail. \nFor more than a decade\, Soto’s Grafts have reimagined the geometrically patterned rejas and quiebrasoles of Puerto Rican homes\, transplanting these architectural forms into new landscapes. In doing so\, she creates poetic meditations on identity\, displacement\, and belonging—structures that\, like the word “graft” suggests\, take root and grow anew in unfamiliar ground. \nCelebrate this important addition to the trail and join a conversation between Soto and ICA Curator\, Jordan Karney Chaim as they discuss the evolution of her practice and the meaning of Graft at our North campus. \n\n6 PM – 7 PM | Explore ICA/North’s Sculpture Trail and view Graft  \n7 PM – 8 PM | Join us for a conversation between Soto and ICA Curator Jordan Karney Chaim \n  \nRSVP HERE\n\n  \nICA San Diego / North\n1550 S El Camino Real\, Encinitas\, CA 92024\nMarch 16\, 2026\n6:00 – 8:00 PM\nGeneral Admission is $10 for this event.\nICA Members receive complimentary admission.\n__________________________\n  \nGet notified of more art events in San Diego: Join our email list!

SUMMARY:C You Saturday! - February 2026
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at ICA San Diego / Central on Saturday\, February 21\, for the opening of Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya: In the Garden of Earthly Delights: I Bend to Paradise. \nThis free art event in San Diego is part of ICA’s commitment to reduce barriers to contemporary art in our community.\nPlease join us on Saturday\, February 21 from 4 to 7pm for the opening reception of Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya: In the Garden of Earthly Delights: I Bend to Paradise at ICA San Diego / Central. This exhibition\, Rodriguez Montoya’s first solo museum show in California\, is an immersive project that brings Nahuatl cosmology into deep space. Drawing from folklore\, border politics\, popular culture\, and science fiction\, Rodriguez Montoya’s exhibition relays the story of a stowaway vampire adrift on the wreckage of a spaceship meant to ferry the privileged into the future. His sculptures and installations\, made from disused materials and silicone\, trace the vampire’s journey from wholeness to rupture and back again\, mirroring the divisiveness\, fear\, and longing that shape our contemporary moment.  \nVisitors are invited to attend Bloodsuckers: Queering the Monstrous Other\, a panel discussion considering the vampire as a symbol of both queer and migrant resistance in the face of persecution. Panelists include exhibiting artist Ruben Ulises Rodriguez Montoya; Dr. Brenda Lara\, interdisciplinary theorist and professor at San Diego State University; and Los Angeles-based writer and artist Christal Pérez. \nGuests will also enjoy a selection of crafted cocktails\, some light music\, and an opportunity to create art in our Education Hub.  \n4 PM – 6:30 PM | Family Friendly Activity: HUB \nVisitors will have the opportunity to drop-in and create an all-ages art activity in our Education Hub inside the gallery.  \n5:00 – 6:00 PM | Bloodsuckers: Queering the Monstrous Other Panel Discussion \nJoin us for a panel discussion in the Mingei Theatre where local educators and artists focused on queer vampire theory and the momentum behind Ruben Montoya’s In the Garden of Earthly Delights: I Bend to Paradise.  \n4 PM – 7 PM | Food\, Drinks and Socializing  \nSocialize and explore the exhibition with delicious tacos plates by Bety’s Tacos and crafted cocktails available for purchase.
