DESCRIPTION:Join us in Encinitas for even more ways to interact with contemporary art! Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA San Diego / North expands on our 2025-2026 exhibition season theme\, On Healing. The exhibitions are part of a year-long exploration of the ways artists address the various socio-cultural wounds revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly\, the associated programs and events seek to explore how art can serve as a vital tool for mental\, physical\, emotional\, and community wellbeing. \nWeekly Wellness Saturdays will take place most Saturdays throughout the year during ICA San Diego’s open hours (Noon – 5pm)\, and includes: \n\n1–2 PM: A rotating healing session hosted by a local facilitator*\n2:15–3:15 PM: A complimentary tour of the current exhibition in its Lower and Upper Pavilions\, the outdoor garden\, and Sculpture Trail\n12–5 PM: An all ages art-making activity related to this year’s On Healing season\n12–5 PM: Complimentary admission to ICA / North’s exhibitions\n\nAdmission to Weekly Wellness Saturdays at ICA / North is free\, and a donation will be suggested for healing activities\, and made directly to the facilitator. \nOctober 11:\n\n1:00PM: Embodied Elements: A Journey Through Mindful Movement with JenMarie Landig — In this experiential workshop\, we’ll explore the deep connections between our bodies and the natural world through the five elements: Earth\, Water\, Fire\, Air\, and Ether. Through mindful movement\, we’ll reconnect with the elemental forces within us—our bones as stones\, our blood as rivers\, our breath as wind. We’ll reflect on how tension and unexpressed emotions live in the body\, and how releasing them can restore balance and clarity. By embracing the wisdom of nature—where scarcity doesn’t exist—we’ll cultivate humility\, presence\, and self-compassion. This journey invites a return to the body’s innate intelligence and a richer\, more grounded relationship with ourselves and the planet. The workshop includes a body scan meditation and guided gentle movement. This fundamental ceramic process is accessible to all skill levels—beginners\, intermediate\, and advanced makers—allowing participants to create both functional and sculptural forms. \nGiselle will begin with an overview of her process and then guide participants through techniques for achieving seamless transitions\, angled designs\, and dynamic forms. Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction\, students will explore transitional edges\, cantilevered planes\, and full curves\, developing a personal vocabulary in clay. In addition to hands-on making\, the workshop will include discussions on building and sustaining a creative practice. \nBetween demonstrations\, participants will have dedicated time to practice the techniques with individual guidance from Giselle. Each student may fire up to two vessels\, with additional work available for firing at a fee for non-members. Once bisque-fired\, pieces can be glazed on-site and fired to cone 5/6 (students will be notified via email when ready). Once in Tijuana\, a private driver will whisk us away to meet with local artists and visit several contemporary art museums. In between\, we’ll stop for a gourmet lunch. Just come ready to learn easy tools you can use daily to reduce stress\, boost vitality\, and reconnect with your inner calm.\n\n  \n\n3:30PM: Mindful Movement: A Journey Through the Elements with JenMarie Landig —  In this experiential workshop\, we’ll explore the deep connections between our bodies and the natural world through the five elements: Earth\, Water\, Fire\, Air\, and Ether. Through mindful movement\, we’ll reconnect with the elemental forces within us—our bones as stones\, our blood as rivers\, our breath as wind. We’ll reflect on how tension and unexpressed emotions live in the body\, and how releasing them can restore balance and clarity. By embracing the wisdom of nature—where scarcity doesn’t exist—we’ll cultivate humility\, presence\, and self-compassion.
