Ready to get your hands on the wheel? This four-week introductory class is designed for students who are completely new to wheel throwing and want to learn the fundamentals in a supportive, hands-on environment. Learn the basics of preparing clay, centering, opening, pulling walls, and shaping simple forms. You’ll also be introduced to trimming and glazing as you take your work from wet clay to bisque-fired pottery. The class includes a built-in firing week, giving your work time to be bisque fired before the final class, when you’ll learn basic glazing techniques and glaze your pieces. No previous ceramics experience is necessary!

Because practice makes progress, all students receive FREE LAB ACCESS at the ICA Ceramics Lab during their class and for several weeks after. It’s a great way to get extra studio time, keep practicing, and experience the benefits of being part of our ceramics community!

Tired of dipping? Want to learn more about underglazes and oxides? Looking for new and creative ways to decorate your pots? This class is for you! Open to all skill levels, Handbuilding + Surface Design is designed for ceramic artists who want to expand their surface design techniques while creating handbuilt forms. Explore underglazes, oxides, carving, stamping, texture, layering, and other ways to add color, pattern, and imagery to your work. Whether you’re new to ceramics or have been making pots for years, this class is an opportunity to experiment, play, and develop your own surface design vocabulary.

This six-week class is designed for students with a range of wheel throwing experience. Each student will work at their own level while receiving demonstrations, individual guidance, and feedback from the instructor. Beginners can continue building a strong foundation, while more experienced potters can refine their technique, explore new forms, and work through areas they’d like to improve. Come ready to practice, experiment, and keep growing as a potter!

Discover the possibilities of clay in this four-week introduction to handbuilding! Designed for beginners, this class introduces the fundamentals of working with clay while giving you plenty of room to explore your own ideas and creativity. Learn foundational techniques including pinching, slab building, joining, and surface decoration while creating functional and sculptural forms. In the final class, you’ll learn basic glazing techniques and add color and surface to your pieces. Get ready to get your hands dirty! Youth Ceramics introduces young artists to the creative possibilities of clay through hands-on projects, experimentation, and plenty of opportunities to make. Students ranging from 8-12 years old will explore foundational ceramics techniques while creating their own unique projects. Through playful, age-appropriate activities, they’ll build confidence, develop creative problem-solving skills, and discover how an idea can become a three-dimensional object. No previous ceramics experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to make!

Explore the relationship between form, function, and the handmade in this six-week wheel throwing class. Designed for a range of experience levels, this class gives you the opportunity to develop your throwing skills while exploring the possibilities of functional pottery. Through demonstrations, hands-on practice, and individual guidance, you’ll explore a variety of forms—from bowls and cups to plates, vases, and more. Work on proportion, balance, wall thickness, trimming, and functional details such as handles and feet. This class is intentionally flexible, allowing students to work at their own level and pursue projects that challenge and interest them. Whether you’re still building confidence on the wheel or have been throwing for years, you’ll have the opportunity to refine your technique, experiment with form, and develop your own approach to making.

Bring your favorite animals to life in clay! This six-week sculpture class explores the fundamentals of creating animal forms while developing your skills in anatomy, movement, character, and expression. Students will learn techniques for building sculptural forms, including armature construction, handbuilding, additive and subtractive methods, and surface detailing. You’ll work from photographs and sketches while exploring both realistic and imaginative approaches to animal sculpture. Whether you’re interested in creating a realistic animal portrait or a more whimsical creature, this class offers a supportive environment to experiment with form, develop your sculpting skills, and bring your ideas to life in clay. No previous sculpture experience is required.

Ready to get your hands on the wheel? Give It A Spin! is a fun, one-day wheel throwing workshop designed for anyone who wants to try pottery in a relaxed, creative environment. No previous ceramics experience is necessary!

Whether you’re looking for a fun date night with your significant other, a creative family experience, a night out with friends, or simply a chance to treat yourself to something new, Give It A Spin! is a great way to get your hands dirty and try something different. Come on your own or bring someone along—the choice is yours!

Learn the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel with guidance from one of our experienced instructors. You’ll get to sit at the wheel, work with clay, and create your own pots while enjoying a fun and social studio experience.

All materials are included! At the end of the workshop, you’ll have the option to keep the pots you make for $20 per pot. This fee covers the additional work needed to finish your piece, including trimming, bisque firing, your choice of glaze, and the final glaze firing.

Using a simple blend of dirt, clay, sand, straw, and water, you’ll mix your own adobe material from scratch before handbuilding a unique sculpture or functional object. Whether you choose to create a small vessel, sculptural form, decorative piece, or something entirely your own, this workshop encourages creativity and experimentation.

Unlike traditional ceramics, adobe is not fired in a kiln. Instead, your creations will dry naturally in the sun, connecting you to an ancient making process that has been used for centuries around the world.

This workshop is perfect for anyone curious about natural materials, sustainable art practices, or simply looking for a fun and creative experience. No prior clay experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
