September C You Saturday! In Celebration of NextGen 2023
You are invited to join us to celebrate NextGen 2023–a juried exhibition of emerging artistic voices that highlights the innovative work being produced across the San Diego region. Through NextGen, ICA San Diego provides recently-graduated artists from local art programs with exhibition opportunities and professional development, while showcasing the strength of our creative community.
This year’s seven selected artists are: Leila Khalilzadeh Aghdami, MFA, San Diego State University; Matthew John Bacher, MFA, San Diego State University; Cat Gunn, MFA, University of California San Diego; Hazel Katz, MFA, University of California San Diego; Heige Kim, MFA, University of California San Diego; Arlene Mejorado, MFA, University of California San Diego; Lorena Ochoa, MFA, University of California San Diego.
The 2023 NextGen Award winner will be announced during the celebration! This award recognizes the artist who received the highest total ranking across the jury panel.

5 PM – 6 PM | Early Access for Members
- Join us for a Members Only Walkthrough of the show with the artists and our Curator, Jordan Karney Chaim starting at 5:15. Members receive two free drink vouchers. Become a member here.
6 PM – 8 PM | NextGen Celebration! Open to the Public
- Explore the exhibition and enjoy delicious food by local Flavor Lab , wine & spirits by Humboldt Distillery, Cerveza Colibre, Curious Elixirs, and more at our cash bar.
- Discover awesome tunes curated by LONGPLAY, a “High-Fidelity Listening Club” dedicated to the promotion of audiophile culture + design + hospitality.
- Join us to create diorama boxes inspired by the NextGen artists’ multi-faceted installations!
6PM – 8PM | Tours
- Be inspired by having a conversation with one of our Engagement Guides in the gallery to learn more about our upcoming artists.
7 PM | 2023 NextGen Award Announcement
